Soaring Eagle Casino

When the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan built a state-of-the-art Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Corbin created a culturally sensitive wayfinding system to guide the thousands of visitors who arrived each day.

The tribe’s Native American culture is expressed in the sign designs for the hotel complex, which incorporate both the “northern lodge” character of the building and the “soaring eagle” logotype into the signs while respecting the sacred meaning of that imagery.

Sign materials, including bright and patina copper and wood, were chosen to provide a sense of permanence while coordinating with the materials used throughout the facility. Recognizing the importance of effective wayfinding to the guest’s experience, special care was given to this aspect of the project, from locating parking to finding hotel rooms and all the amenities the hotel and casino offers. Interior signage is enhanced by four interactive computer kiosks, which help guests with wayfinding while offering background on the culture and art of the tribe.
