Carleton College, a private liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota, partnered with Corbin Design to update exterior signage across its 1,040-acre campus, arboretum, and athletic fields. The goal was to create a cohesive campus identity while helping visitors, students, faculty, and staff navigate more easily by car or on foot. Clearly identifying campus access points along Highway 10 was a key priority.
Although thoughtfully designed, the existing signs blended into the surrounding landscape, limiting their visibility and effectiveness as wayfinding tools. The new design boldly embraces Carleton’s colors and incorporates elements of the college’s logo on sign backs and footers. These details establish a stronger visual presence and reinforce the college’s identity, creating a welcoming, recognizable signage system throughout campus and surrounding neighborhoods.
