City of

Muscatine, Iowa

Looking to enhance navigation, improve the visitor experience, and drive visitors to local businesses, parks, and cultural attractions, the City of Muscatine, Iowa, partnered with Corbin Design to create a gateway and wayfinding program. The need stemmed from interstate bypass roads that moved traffic efficiently around the city—but in doing so, left many visitors and passing traffic unaware of the depths of destinations within the city. The new wayfinding program is designed to build awareness and to connect the city’s top destinations and attractions to Downtown and the Riverfront.

Inspired by Muscatine’s proximity to the Mississippi River and its historic pearl button industry, Corbin Design created a design with custom graphics that celebrate this heritage while establishing a distinctive visual brand for the city. The result is a sign family that includes parking, pedestrian, and vehicular signs that not only guide visitors but also tell Muscatine’s story—linking its past to a vibrant present.
