Mark VanderKlipp, Corbin Design President, will be presenting the closing keynote address for the International Sign Association’s Sign Expo 2013 on April 6, 2013 at 10:30am. Joining him will be Graham Gerylo, Project Manager with the City of Calgary’s Land Use Planning & Policy division, and Steve Hutchison, Director of Architectural Project Management with Architectural Graphics Inc. (AGI) of Virginia Beach, VA.

Together, they’ll present the Calgary City Centre Wayfinding Program from start to finish. A description of the session:

At the outset of Calgary’s City Centre wayfinding project, our client team leader articulated an impressive challenge: “We want to be a World Class City. Tell us how to get there.” Learn how this team brought together a network of over 50 groups within City Centre to strategize, design and implement a comprehensive pedestrian and transit wayfinding program. The team included stakeholders at the highest levels from tourism, business revitalization zones (BRZs), the City’s design, planning and administrative teams, cultural venues, parks, transit, roads and advocates for the disabled. This group collaborated with design professionals, brand consultants, app developers, sign fabricators and the City’s internal communication department in order to plan and implement the rollout. Together, we’ve built an engaged, informed and durable coalition that understands the benefits of the signage system in the context of City Centre’s built environment, as well as its Master Plan. This group is now empowered to make the most of the wayfinding system that has become an integral part of this great North American City.

As we develop wayfinding systems for a variety of clients, we appreciate how public engagement is critical to the design process. Here, we share two examples from recent client groups and the outcomes of those sessions:

We led a prototype process on the interior of this complex medical campus to test proposed logic changes and as a “proof of concept” for wayfinding tools. The exercise was designed to… More...

The FHWA has issued a clarification on the ruling it issued on January 25, 2016 terminating the Interim Approval of Clearview as an alternate font to the MUTCD. With regard to community wayfinding signage systems, the use of alternate fonts is still possible.

To summarize:
