Corbin Designed worked closely with the Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau to develop a wayfinding system for the 18-community region that reflects its combination of urban style and small-town warmth. A key objective was to include the community in the design and development process. To do so, Corbin Design met with stakeholders and conducted surveys to gauge their opinions on everything from the words they use to describe the Fox Cities to difficulties navigating the region. We also developed naming options and two separate icon concepts to represent the region’s districts, and polled stakeholders on their preferred district names and icons. The resulting system starts with a welcome sign to the region that lays out how the districts fall geographically along the Fox River, followed by welcome signs to each district and municipality. Trailblazers direct to other areas, vehicular directional signs direct to major destinations and parking, and map kiosks help pedestrians navigate downtowns.
