Position your organization for change:
Cultural and process changes are key to wayfinding success

A wayfinding system needs to be supported in the language that is a part of your culture. See if any of these statements apply to your organization:

  • "We have people who have been employed here for decades. When they're directing visitors, they sometimes refer to destinations that haven't existed for years."
  • "New staff hires, interns, volunteers and subcontractors all have their own idea of how to direct people. We need to revamp our training and orientation so that everyone's on the same page here."
  • "I've come up with my own way to get people from our location to other destinations and amenities. I could have gone through marketing for this information, but it's too much of a hassle."
  • "Our website is much more up to date with regard to how we speak about this organization. Unfortunately, our printed materials and our signage haven't kept pace. We need a more flexible system."
  • "Local media has no idea of how to refer to our organization, or how to direct the public to events here. It's frustrating."

Consider your institutional history and existing processes as key factors to support the logic of an effective and flexible wayfinding system. Then sit down with a core team of "change agents" in your organization and answer these questions:

  • What's "true" about the way we refer to our organization?
  • Does how we speak reflect our current brand architecture as expressed in public and internal communications?
  • We know we need to make changes to enhance our visitors' experience. What processes do we need to put in place in order to assure consistency across the board?
  • Have we thought about who will be in charge of this system when updates need to be made?
  • Have we stressed the critical nature of this program to our administrative decision makers, and have we received their support?

Corbin Design can team with you to build this internal consistency, boosting customer satisfaction and improving your bottom line.

a cultural change as
a physical one.
