After one of the coldest and snowiest winters in recent years, we're looking forward to the spring thaw in more ways than one. As you'll read below, we just moved into a new office space. And we've also launched a redesigned website with a new look, new projects and lots of great wayfinding information. Check it out! |

Getting Ready For The Rally Cities and downtowns forge ahead with their wayfinding programs to prepare for recovery Conversations with city and downtown development leaders who are involved in wayfinding projects find them bullish on the projects' prospects for improving business both now and when the economy turns the corner. Meanwhile, the fabricators who build and install such systems say that now is a great time to bid such projects, due to increased competition and lower material costs. "Wayfinding is the final piece of the puzzle in getting our downtown revitalized," said Elizabeth Alley, a planner for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina. "We've got all the venues now; we just have to get the visitors to them." Added Arthur Mullen, executive director of Michigan's Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority, "We just look at this as a great tool to help market the community and put some pointers out in the area towards us. It's important to move forward in these down times to take advantage of things when they get better." Click here to read the complete white paper... All Together Now... Corbin Design is still unpacking from an office move at its downtown Traverse City location that provides more space while encouraging better collaboration by bringing the the staff closer together. The firm moved into Traverse City's historic Hannah Lay Building in 1986 (when we had just six employees). As the business grew over the next 22 years, our office space gradually spread across two sides of the building, separated by a public hallway. The firm's 19 employees have now moved into a larger contiguous space on the same floor, with designers and project managers working face-to-face in adjoining sections of the office and new meeting and conference areas offering more opportunities for team meetings and client communications. The picture below shows the main suite where most of our staff are now located. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by for a tour!

Signs of Health The Indiana University School of Medicine opened a new $150 million cancer center on its Indianapolis campus in late 2008, offering state-of-the-art medical treatment to cancer patients. Corbin Design created the interior and exterior wayfinding systems for the five-story, 405,000-square-foot facility, having already developed wayfinding systems for other Clarian Health facilities including Clarian Arnett Hospital, Clarian North Medical Center and Clarian West Medical Center. Corbin worked closely with architects at Cannon Design and designers at Maregatti Interiors to assure that the wayfinding elements coordinated with the building architecture and interior decor. The system was fabricated and installed by ASI-Modulex of Indianapolis. |
