Downtown Raleigh, NC
RaleighThere's a buzz around the country about Raleigh. As one of the three primary cities in North Carolina's Research Triangle, and its State Capital, Raleigh combines the best of high technology and gracious Southern living. A booming downtown revitalization brings new companies, conventions, residents and tourists in each year, to the tune of 11.5 million people. But what good is having all this growth if you can't find your way?

Working closely with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance and the Urban Design Center, we developed a process that included frequent public input to determine, then address, the functional and aesthetic needs of the wayfinding system. In a city with local, state and federal governing bodies, this was a tall order, but the process went smoothly and beautiful wayfinding signs are now in place. The program was fabricated and installed by Architectural Graphics, Inc (AGI) in Virginia Beach, VA.

Downtown Traverse City, MI
Yes, our own downtown now sports a Corbin Designed wayfinding system!

Traverse CityGiven that Traverse City is a year-round destination for shopping, festivals, epicurean events, outdoor recreation and all-around fun, the environment needed to respond to the expressed needs of visitors getting lost, and merchants who wanted to bring those visitors to their doors. Working with diverse community stakeholders, we identified three main downtown districts, connecting them with wayfinding signage.

Brightly colored sign types, most applied to existing streetscape elements, appear throughout downtown to direct vehicles to major destinations, parking, and between districts. Pedestrian-scaled guide signs feature key destinations such as the Visitor Center, restrooms and more dining and shopping opportunities. And detailed merchant directories give visitors all the information they need to create their own memorable experiences.

The program was fabricated and installed by Valley City Sign in Grand Rapids, MI.
