Jeff established Corbin Design in 1976, joking that he moved to northern Michigan to raise raspberries. He went on to pick a top-notch staff of designers who helped him turn the firm into a pioneer in the fields of wayfinding and information design. In 2003, Jeff took the title of Founder and Chairman as part of the firm’s transition to an employee-owned company. Jeff retired from Corbin Design in 2006, though he continues to speak on the firm’s behalf at select engagements. Jeff’s wayfinding and information design expertise have made him a popular public speaker before a wide range of organizations, including the American Hospital Association, American Institute of Architects, International Downtown Association, Society for College and University Planning, and Symposium on Healthcare Design. A founding member and past national chairman of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design, Jeff is also a past president of the Association of Professional Design Firms. He has also served on the Advisory Council for Design Michigan, a program dedicated to improving Michigan’s places, products and communications through design. Jeff’s background is in architecture and engineering, which helps explain his feel for three-dimensional environments and what’s needed to guide people through them. He holds bachelor of the arts and bachelor of architecture degrees from Houston’s Rice University. Jeff put that architectural background to good use as Corbin’s chief Information Architect, assuring that the users of our wayfinding systems, print projects and digital media productions were able to quickly and easily find and manage the information they need.
