Gene joined Corbin Design as a designer in December, 2007. A Midland native, he graduated with honors from Ferris State University’s Kendall College of Art and Design, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Communications. Gene came to Corbin from the Midland-based Design Craftsmen, where he spent five years working as a graphic designer. While there, he developed graphic programs for exhibits including The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center in Pennsylvania, the History Wall at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth and The Western Center for Archaeology & Paleontology in Hemet, California. One of his tastiest assignments, though, was helping to build exhibits for the SPAM™ Museum in Austin, Minnesota, home of America’s favorite canned meat. At Corbin Design, Gene has already worked on wayfinding projects for Mission Health in Asheville, North Carolina and for Downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. He notes that wayfinding and exhibit design are similar in their scope and scale to the environment, and in their permanence, “which is something I’ve always been attracted to.” When not designing eye-catching and informative exhibits or comprehensive wayfinding solutions, Gene likes backpacking the remoter parts of Michigan with his wife Carrie and others. He’s even got pictures of the moose and calf that he and his father stumbled upon in the mists of Isle Royale, the remote island off the coast of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
