University of Michigan Health System

Ann Arbor, MI

Wayfinding on the site of the University of Michigan Medical Center is complicated by a circular road with significant elevation changes that defines the medical campus and provides access to all its facilities. Proper terminology and message placement is critical to the success of the signage in communicating information to drivers as quickly as possible.

The medical facility, together with JJR, its campus planners, asked Corbin Design to implement a program of overhead signs throughout the campus to improve wayfinding. Using an existing overhead directional sign that visitors considered effective as a model, Corbin Design developed a complete wayfinding system with simplified terminology and more logical placement of directional arrows and messages.

Photorenderings were created to illustrate each phase of the program, including redesigned directional and informational signs for the medical center’s parking garages.
